What Happens To My Battery Once It Reaches The End Of Its Life?
Currently at Bangeran, the energy source we use in all our devices are lithium ion batteries. Unlike other energy sources that may pollute the world, the lithium ion batteries are a closed system which when the battery comes to the end of its life, the rare and valuable materials inside can be extracted, refined and recovered for a second use. More importantly, we are committed to recycle all batteries used in our devices so far and minimize our environmental footprint. But we can't do it without your help.
Why You Can’t Just Throw a Lithium Ion Battery in the Trash?
- Environmental Impact: Lithium-ion batteries contain materials that can be harmful to the environment. Improper disposal can lead to the release of hazardous substances, including heavy metals like lithium, cobalt, and nickel, into the soil and water.
- Fire Hazard: Lithium-ion batteries have the potential to catch fire if damaged or improperly handled. When disposed of in regular trash, there is a risk of short circuits or punctures, which can lead to fires during the waste handling process.
- Resource Recovery: Lithium-ion batteries contain valuable materials that can be recovered and reused. Recycling these batteries allows for the extraction of metals like lithium, cobalt, and nickel, reducing the need for mining new raw materials and promoting sustainability.
- Regulatory Compliance: Many regions have regulations in place that prohibit the disposal of certain types of batteries, including lithium-ion batteries, in regular household waste. Proper disposal methods are often mandated to ensure environmental protection and safety.
- Closed-Loop Recycling: Responsible disposal practices support the concept of closed-loop recycling, where materials from old batteries are reclaimed and reused in the manufacturing of new batteries. This approach minimizes the environmental impact and reduces the demand for new resources.
